Our longer weekend

We woke up Friday morning to terrible news. The Aurora, CO shooting. We were glued to the TV until we had to carry on with our daily plan and ultimately our life. We felt blessed to be safe and be able to hold each other.
A week ago Ry and I decided we needed a day together, just us, to unwind, talk and just enjoy the day without having to say "no, you can't do that, stop that, hold my hand, don't talk back...".
Ry dropped off D as I got a few extra minutes of rest news time. We headed out to breakfast to a cute little restaurant downtown of our little village. We love our downtown area. It's quaint but it does have the feel of the normal hustle and bustle of a big city. We enjoyed breakfast, chatted, talked about baby names. Since there was no WIFI available in the restaurant we went to Caribou for some caffeine, decaf for me. We sat like an old couple surfing our iPad. We decided to purchase tickets to see Batman, and we planned our day around that. I was a little nervous going to a theater but my hubby talked me into it.
The next place on our agenda was the beach. The unsuccessful trip a couple weeks back had me longing to try again. The weather was perfect Friday. We arrived at the beach to see another "No Swimming" warning sign. We were OK with that since we didn't bother to even wear swimsuits because the weather was perfect we knew there would be no need to cool off.
We relaxed, took a little walk and talked about how we would bring D there in the next couple of weeks. It was mostly guilt talking since we saw so many little ones running around.
24 weeks!
We got to the theater and loaded up on junk food (Ry and I paid for that by feeling like whales all day). The movie was really good but I will admit the second one was better.
We picked up D from school, he loves it when we both pick him up, he just smiles and giggles in the car. It is too precious. We made a stop at Costco to score their 18'' pizza for $9.98!
We had to take D to the park in the evening so our guilt would go away for not taking him anywhere.
Saturday, we had a great day celebrating Grandpa's 65th bday!
Grandpa and D blew out the candle together.
We met at Portillo's for burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. D performed some Polish songs, sang happy birthday for his grandpa and then we headed out to their pool.
It was a good day.
Guess who loves cake?
Daniel is turning into quite the photographer. He took this picture.

Sunday, I had a headache all day long. We did manage to run a couple of errands, go to the library, watch Alvin and the Chipmunks Chipwrecked, go to the park and end our day playing together. It was a good weekend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones in the CO shooting. It is so sad to think a person with so much potential in life wanted to destroy other lives. I keep thinking about his parents and the horrible nightmare they are going through right now. I hope the media doesn't start blaming the parents somehow. They need our prayers as well.
