Thanksgiving and weekend review in pics

Our holiday weekend started on Thursday morning as we watched the entire 3 hours of Macy's parade. Note to self: watch the last 30 minutes and you'll be just as satisfied.
Before heading over to my mom's we hung out with Ry's parents. They spoil us rotten with early X-Mas gifts. This year a nativity set and sonic power tooth brushes. My pearly whites thank you.
We took a few pics before heading out.
D and his beloved Emery, the chugger (it's a train for those that don't speak preschool).
We inhaled awesome food.
Even Kuba growled under the table for some scraps. He knows my mom is a sucker.
Friday morning with a major sinus headache I had to rally myself to put the tree up.
I survived.
D loves the tree. He just sat there and starred at it.
But he was more obsessed with the Dickens village I put up in the family room.
It included daddy's tree, we like mixing classic and science fiction.
Darth Vader made his annual debut along with all the ships of the galaxy.
Saturday we ventured out and picked up an additional piece to the village, Daniel's latest obsession, CLOCKS. Behold a clock tower.
He carried this thing all over the store. It doesn't even do anything but he loves it.
Since D failed to nap during the day I took advantage of putting him down early while Ry went out with a couple of friends. My plan to take a bath and watch a chick flick failed as I fell asleep before the little man did.
Today we went to Hallmark, our annual trip to pick one ornament out for D and one for our family.
A train and a candy cane (the candy cane was compliments of the store manager, he gave it to D and told him Santa would find him if he put it on the tree)
Then we saw this...
Disney clock ornament
It was perfect, this year was our first time going to Disney and then to put a clock in it, well...u know what happened.
He turned it
and turned it
and the tune will not get out of my head
He loves it. The train is ignored for now but it's so sweet seeing 4 years of ornaments that represent his interests.
2008-baby's first x-mas with a picture of a chubby baby (soft foods were his thing at the time)
2009-a fisher price school bus that reminded us of his obsession that seems forever ago
2010-CARS, how can we forget watching that movie over and over
2011-A Lionel train, our favorite past time which has also become annoying to hear
D: "you need to build me a new track"
Us: "we just built you a new one"
D: "OK tomorrow morning then".
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Weekend recap

It's a jungle out there, literally, at our house it is.
We've had an issue with animals going through our garbage. I notice sandwich bags flying around our grass, containers under our bushes, I finally looked and noticed our garbage bin had a huge crack in it. Animals have been trying to get into it but the best they could do was rip stuff out of the opening.
Scene 1: Pepe le Pew
The night before garbage day I try to get rid of all the garbage in the house before pick up in the morning. I had two bags in my hand as I casually walked into the dark evening to empty them into the bins at the end of the driveway. I heard a shuffle, I smelled something...I ran like my life depended on it (with both bags in hand). I yelled "there is a skunk out there and I almost got sprayed". The two men of the house ran downstairs, breaking from their excitement of playing together to stare out the window.
The conversation went something like this:
35 year old: "Give me $100 and I'll go out there to throw it out, dare me?"
3.5 year old: "Is the skunk going to ring our doorbell mommy?"
32 year difference in age, not much in imagination. HA!
We spotted the stinky bastard a minute later coming out of hiding. BLAH!!
The garbage waited in the garage till the next morning. My hubby NOT $100 richer and D disappointed that the skunk didn't ring the doorbell and come in for some tea.
Here are the two men watching out the scene unfold (I think the little things are photo worthy):

Scene 2: Ace Ventura pet detective
On Saturday after church I decided to drop off some pizza at my sister's, 2 houses down. As I pulled out of the garage I noticed the recycle bin was blown down by the heavy winds we've had. I went and stood it upright. I heard a noise inside the bin and felt movement. I ran into the car and drove off, looking at the bins shake and the lid lift up and then down.
After the pizza drop off, I pulled up and saw a tail sticking out from under the lid. Something was trying to get out. I clicked on the garage door opener for the door to open then I was afraid whatever was in the can would run out and come into the garage. I frantically started clicking on the garage door to close, it was stuck. I didn't move up or down. My heart started beating faster, I clicked on the button again and it came down. Whatever was in the bin calmed down and stopped moving. I opened the garage, pulled in and quickly closed it. I ran in and once again screamed "we got a problem". Ry was in the middle of reading to D but I had his full attention when I said "there is something stuck in the recycle bin and it's trying to get out". Daniel said "mommy is it the skunk again?". I couldn't confirm or deny because by the looks of the tail I saw it could have been anything. My hubby didn't ask for money this time but decided he needed to kick the bin down to let is loose, it was either that or let the animal die in there and then we would really have a problem.
D and I were in the window watching daddy. He approached the bin slowly, questioning me in the window if I truly saw anything. I replied "I think I know if a lid is moving up and down and furry tail is sticking out". I was holding D, dressed in his blue Cars 2 pajamas with his blue eyes wide open he said "Is the big animal going to come inside our house?". "No peanut, it's just a little animal", I said but I thought I really can't show my fear that this animal might attack your father and gauge his eyes out, he's really our hero. With a quick kick to the bin, it fell over and we saw a possum come out and run like hell across our neighbors lawn. Ry ran like hell just like the possum in the opposite direction, towards our front door.
That was our excitement of our weekend. Sorry you just lost 10 minutes of your life reading that.
It was a good family weekend. I played robot attacks D's new car. I have tried to be better about playing pretend with him because it's hard to pull away from house work, but house work will never go away and these times when he actually says "mommy come play with me" won't last forever.
We are looking forward to a wonderful busy holiday week. Daniel is super excited. Every morning he asks "is it Christmas yet?". I have to remind him that we first eat turkey. Then he says "Christmas is coming soon". Our plan is to put up our tree on Friday. It's so much more fun this year, we are so excited to be making memories with him. We are going to have a visitor come this week to keep an eye on things before X-Mas. That's for another post.
Later gator

Weekend post

Daniel was home for 4 straight days, Thursday was teacher/parent conference, Friday veterans day and then the weekend. He needed school today, really, he did and I did.
On Friday our long awaited purchase arrived on a FedEx truck. I have been looking for now 4 years for this perfect item. I had a vision of it in my head and I googled my heart out year after year to no avail, UNTIL this year. I typed the words into google and this year it didn't take long for me to find the PERFECT Advent Calendar. It looked just as I had imagined, subtle colors, heirloom quality, a true meaning of X-Mas message and a way to build excitement for Jesus's birthday. It was pure perfection. I was worried it would arrive and look different, as I ripped the box open then the box inside the box, I gasped and Daniel said "mommy watcha got there?". I pulled it out and it was just how I imagined. D got excited, mostly because I put the bubble wrap on the floor to distract him while I uncovered the item from under pounds of paper.
He has major skills in jumping.
I won't hold you in suspense any more...
Each day, starting December 1st, you open the door to reveal a piece that will be placed in the nativity scene. December 24th completes the set with baby Jesus.
Isn't it amazing?!!!!!
Here is how it looks complete.

The rest of the weekend I had to keep D away from the calendar because he loves opening ALL the doors. A child just doesn't understand December 1st too well.
Aside from running errands, cooking, cleaning spending time together and going to church the rest of the weekend, we really didn't do much.
Oh yeah, today, I had to take a vacation day because I chose to ignore the message on my computer flashing daily for the past 2 weeks that said You must change your password. As I tried to log on this morning and got the blue screen of death it took a total of 5 seconds to convince me it was God's way of telling me I needed to take the day off. I met a friend for coffee after dropping D off at school, cooked chili, got an outrageous estimate for window blinds, put away laundry, organized bills, ran to a couple of stores to look for cheaper window treatment alternatives, came home ate lunch at 2 and then it was time to pick up my little man. The surprised look on his face when he saw me after school melted my heart. I don't get to pick him up so it was sweet to see that face light up. The best part of my day.
Alright now, it's late, there is chili waiting for me.

Weekend recap

My weekend started with a much needed girls night out on Friday. I went out with a couple of friends to a sushi restaurant http://www.nozumiasiancuisine.com/ . We had a lovely time catching up on girly stuff, it was a much needed overdo get together.
While I was away, the men kept busy, Ry bought Cars2 and the boys got comfortable on our bed.
D is still battling a cold, a warm bath and some vapor rub always makes him feel better.
We visited the library, attended church and a book fair at Daniel's school. When did books get so expensive?!
We also worked on a family banner. The banner has to represent what our family likes to do together. Thank goodness I take so many pictures because it was easy pulling out some to capture our family.
Sunday, with chicken soup done we watched Beauty and Beast, one of my favorites.
We have our first teachers conference this Thursday. I can't wait to get a full report...or do I?
I also got one big thing accomplished this weekend, our X-Mas card pictures are done. I'll be picking them up in a couple of week. It's amazing how much easier it is to pose a 3.5 year old than a 2 year old. He did great!
And now for the X-Mas shopping to start...

Halloween

We survived Halloween and all the craziness that goes with it. Daniel has had a cold since last week. It started off with a rash all over his body and a fever and we are now on to a bad cough with crankiness and an attitude.
I only had him go to school for half a day to enjoy the party in the morning with his class. He came home at 11am, relaxed, ate and then at 1:45 we had to go back for the parade. I wasn't sure if he was well enough to go but he assured me "I not sick anymore". Off we went, with no parking in sight we had to walk 2 blocks, we got there just in time for me to push through some parents and push D with his class.
15 minutes later we were coming home.
3 hours later we started opening the doors to some candy hungry kids.
Some "super girls" showed up and had to have a picture with a pirate. It must be the attraction to bad boys. (That's my niece to the left of D). They had me cracking up. You wanna know what they wore? Kids super hero underwear OVER their tights. Classic! Why didn't I think of that when I was bar hopping on Halloween.
Once daddy came home we were off to do some trick or treating.
Notice the mustache change colors? I think brown went better with his blond hair. HA!
We only went to a few houses and by the time we made it by my sister's (2 houses down) D said "I want to go inside". He couldn't quite grasp why people were not letting him in.
Once inside he was a happy camper, especially when he scored a lollipop from his cousin.
All in all a very busy but successful Halloween.
AAARRRGGGGGG!!!
