Weekend Review

The weather this weekend cooperated with no rain and plenty of sunshine but it was HOT. Saturday, after my Zumba class we went for a nice long bike ride. Both of these activities left my legs feeling like jello. We ran errands and relaxed in the back yard while D splashed in his pool.
Sunday, right before church I tortured D with some modeling poses as it gave me a chance to practice settings with my camera.

After only one spanking threat at church we came home and got ready to go to Pirates Cove.

The theme park was really nice, it's not big but it has enough activities to entertain a 3 year old. Since D has been in the Pirate mode lately, it was perfect. I heard a lot of "ARRRRRGGGG" from both him and Ry. Everywhere we go now the two of them play pirates. Daddy is Captain Hook and D is Pirate Jake and every closet in our house is now "a hideout".
First stop a manual train ride

Notice his ears are covered when he came out. He does this whenever he doesn't like a noise.

Next on the agenda was a slide with daddy. I heard him yelling at the top "not this one, this one, I want to do it by myself". Finally, he realized he needed daddy. Not sure what the ear covering was for on this ride.

We stopped by some boats but he looked and wanted nothing to do with it, until we stopped again and he went for it. A pro.

We had lunch on top of a pirate ship, a boy's dream.
Then we realized it was HOT and needed to cool off.
And inside too
before we went back for more.
and yes my child does match except that my bottle of water wasn't closed in the bag and his clothes got soaked.
This time he went on the carousel 3 times all by himself.
We came home and the boys were exhausted. D made it without a nap all day, he did rest on the couch watching Toy Story 3 while daddy slept and mommy made dinner.
We still went for a bike ride in the evening and the boys enjoyed playing pirates at the park.
It's August and summer will be over before we know it. I love fall but wish we had that season last more than 2 weeks in Chicago.
Monday is here again, oh how I hate the beginning of a work week.

Catching a breath

Last week and this week has been crazy busy at work for me. There is nothing like trying to shove millions of projects in right before fiscal year end. I have been working late at home and through lunch on many occasions, all of that equals one cranky mama.

Adding to my crankiness is a cranky son at exactly 6:00pm, dinner time.

He has been defiant with everything, including going potty. My patience has been tested on numerous occasions.

I actually walked to my sister's house today and wanted to sell him for $5. Instead, I vented and he showed off his I'm in charge moods to prove my point. I got no sympathy from two parents with teens at home.

We got home and he had to go to bed with only one book read instead of his usual 3. I think I got my point across when I heard "I be good boy mommy, I sorry". The kid knows how to get to me but I stood firm and said "yes, you are so tomorrow you'll get 3 books if you are a good boy and go potty". I swear this potty thing is the toughest stage I've gone through with him. I know, the moms with teens would strongly disagree.

On a more grown up note. Ry and I got to enjoy some adult time at a wedding on Saturday. We danced, ate and talked. We realized that we were old when on Monday night we were still feeling the effects of going to bed at 1:30am.

That used to be only 2 hours into an evening at one point in our lives, now the soft feeling of my sheets at 1:30am is a dream.

Here we are, still a Hot couple. :)

I'm off to bed now. I actually prepared dinner at 10pm tonight so we would have something healthy tomorrow for dinner.Hopefully, a certain 3 year old will appreciate a home cooked meal. One can only wish.

TGIF

It has been a long week, work has been crazy for me. I'm looking forward to the weekend. We have a wedding to attend tomorrow, now that all my friends are married we don't get invites to weddings that often anymore. When we do, we consider it our date night with quality food and a dance or two.

One lucky boy

Daniel has had a very busy few days.
Thursday is his day with his Marron grandparents. They took him to a choo choo restaurant, where Daniel stared in amazement as his food was delivered on a train.
Now that's service
Friday Ry took off of work to spend a daddy/son day with D. They went to Chuckie Cheese for 3 hours!!!
He was one happy boy
After a good nap, mommy got ready for a GNO (Girls Night Out) while daddy continued his duties at home. While mommy enjoyed Sangria with her current and past co-workers D and daddy went for a bike ride and the park.
Saturday, I took a photography class with a friend of mine Sara. We had a great time learning and catching up. The class was from 8am till 3pm and I was exhausted. I did learn a lot about our camera, now to apply the skills I learned and to keep the camera off of Auto will be the true test.
While I was in class daddy and D went for a long bike ride and visited a few parks and stopped for some ice cream at Oberweis. I was getting text messages from them with pics throughout the day and I missed being with them. I also hate that I can't download any of the pics because Ry sent them to me in a weird format from his blackberry.
Sunday, was a day full of humidity, sun and fun.
We had a playdate with my dear friend and her two girls. One took a nice 2 hour nap while the older one played with D.
They took water out of the pool more than they were in it.

They shared matching colored popsicles

But the best part...
cheese pizza and crazy bread ... and a couple of margaritas for the moms
It was a nice weekend.

A summer photo shoot

On Thursdays our park district has a band that plays various music outside. We can hear it all the way by our house. Tonight I decided it was time to check out the scene and brought my camera along. Tonight's theme...The Beach Boys.
